“Sheridan Smith … Outstanding Dramatic Acting”
If you admire meaty drama and superb acting, then the Old Vic’s current production of Ibsen’s ‘Hedda Gabler’ starring the brilliantly versatile Sheridan Smith, is a definite for your ‘must see list’.
In an acting challenge compared to the role of Hamlet, Sheridan Smith totally nailed this tragic part. With subtle gestures conveying her many emotional changes and her sophisticated, seductive and passionate manipulation of just about everyone on stage Sheridan Smith gave a totally compelling outstanding dramatic performance.
In this version of ‘Hedda Gabler’ by Brian Friel directed by Anna Mackmin on one of the most elegantly sumptuous sets I have ever seen, we were also treated to some particularly touching and convincing acting from Adrian Scarborough, strongly supported by a stellar cast of Fenella Woolgar, Anne Reid, Daniel Lapaine, Buffy Davis and Darrell D’Silva.
If you like solid drama and want to see something moving, powerful and thought provoking then you won’t do much better than supporting the Old Vic in this classic production of ‘Hedda Gabler’.
